John said, "What do you mean, I'm an angel?"

 

The Master looked at John with eyes of the Universe, and replied, "What did you think you were?"

 

John looked puzzled. "A man like all men."

 

"What does that mean? 'A man like all men'?"

 

"I don't know. It means I'm like everybody else."

 

"Well, well. I didn't know that all people spend their time sitting and talking to a spirit."

 

"Spirit?" echoed John in a surprised voice. "You're sitting here in front of me right now in the flesh."

 

"Am I?" With that, the Master disappeared. John sat staring into the empty space where the Master had been.

 

"Don't sit there with your mouth hanging open," came the voice of the Master from the empty space. Suddenly he was sitting there again smiling at John.

 

John stared at him for a moment, then whispered, "Where did you go?"

 

"I didn't go anywhere. I was here all the time." 

 

"But I saw you disappear. One minute you were there and the next moment you were gone."

 

"Don't you see, Beloved One, that what you think you see is not always the truth? 

 

"When you look in the mirror you think you see the real you. But all you really see is the being you created in order to remember who you are. This casing or body that you created is just as much an illusion as your seeing me disappear. What is behind your eyes? What looks out from behind your eyes? What inhabits that body of yours is your real truth.

 

"Certainly you must believe in your humanity, but you must believe also in your Divinity. Your Divinity is your real truth. Your humanity is your real illusion. You must learn about your illusion in order to discover your angelhood. What is an angel but a pure, loving light that has come to learn to spread love and comfort those who are afraid to discover their true identity? 

 

"You call me 'Master,' but what am I really? I am just a reflection of you. Who and what you are are who and what I am. The difference is that I recognize my Divinity and am in love with it. You do not yet have this recognition. You come to me because you long to discover your true identity. I reflect to you who you are but you are afraid to accept what you know in your heart is the truth. So I am going to be your Master until you accept whom you are. Then we will become equals, for we will become Master to each other. Oh what great joy it will be when we can greet each other as equals again!

 

"If you wish to find your true Self, say in your mind, as often as you can, the words, 'I AM. These words will guide you to your truth.

 

"Inside all beings are Masters. Yes, even the worst of humankind have hidden inside the Master waiting to come out. Most have blinded themselves to their true selves and it may take many lifetimes for them to begin to unfold that which have been cemented over. But eventually cracks will begin to break down the concrete that they have surrounded themselves with through eons of time. Eventually, all of humankind will evolve into the light that is their true essence."

 

"Are you trying to say that really we are all equal?" John queried, in a disbelieving voice.

 

"Of course. Look around you and pretend you see everyone with wings. Some have very small wings and some have huge ones. By looking at people that way you will begin to see the degree of everyone's consciousness. The more conscious, the bigger the wings."

 

"Do angels really have wings?" asked John.

 

"Do Beings of Light have need of wings? Of course not, but you as a human have this vision of angels as having wings, so why not use that vision to help you to see. When you stop being afraid to see your true self, when you give up the need to say 'No' and begin to say 'Yes' to your Self, you will be on the path of self-knowledge and self-love."

 

And the Master disappeared again.
